Certified range figures come from lab test cycles. On the road, speed, air conditioning and driving style change the number. This calculator estimates a realistic range from battery size and consumption.
How the calculation works
Range = battery size x 1000 x usable % / consumption in Wh per km, then multiplied by a driving-style factor (1.00 city, 0.88 mixed, 0.75 highway) and an AC factor (0.92 with AC on). The reserve line shows how far you can go while keeping 20% in the battery.
Worked example
A 40 kWh battery with 90% usable and 150 Wh per km gives 240 km in steady city driving. On the highway with AC on, the same car is estimated at about 166 km.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find Wh per km?
Divide battery size by the real distance you get on a full charge, or read the average consumption on the trip computer.
Are the factors exact?
No. They are typical planning factors, not measurements. Temperature, load, tyres and road gradient also matter.
What is usable battery?
Manufacturers keep a small buffer at the top and bottom of the pack. Usable capacity is often 90 to 95 percent of the headline number.
These calculators give estimates based on the numbers you enter. Real results vary with vehicle, tariff, weather and driving habits.
