Battery life is the biggest worry for new EV buyers. This estimator converts your daily distance into charge cycles and shows how many years the pack may take to fall to 80% of its original capacity.
How the calculation works
Cycles used per year = daily km x 365 / real range per full charge. Years to 80% health = rated cycles / cycles used per year. Distance until 80% health = rated cycles x real range.
Worked example
With 1,500 rated cycles, a 300 km real range and 40 km a day, you use about 49 full cycles a year. That puts 80% health about 31 years or 4.5 lakh km away, so the warranty period or the age of the vehicle is the real limit.
Frequently asked questions
Is that realistic?
It is a best-case figure. Heat, frequent fast charging and leaving the pack at 100% or near empty all age the cells faster. Treat the result as an upper bound.
What cycle rating should I use?
LFP packs are often rated for 2,000 to 3,000 cycles and NMC packs for 1,000 to 1,500, but check your manufacturer data and warranty.
Does 80% health mean the car stops working?
No. It means roughly 20% less range than when new. Many EVs run well beyond that point.
